Prior to Mommy101 I worked for 8 years as a staff nurse in the NICU and Mother/Baby units. Through my experience with families with premature infants and healthy newborns I have assisted many families in the transition to parenthood. I encourage parents to trust their own instincts and learn to read their baby's cues. I am also a Happiest Baby on the Block Instructor. This is a technique that calms babies, gets them to sleep longer and helps colic. She educated us about what is the pelvic floor (all the muscles in the pelvis that support your organs, control the release of urine and BM, and the muscles surrounding the vagina), how to keep it healthy and what to do if it is not perfect. What did I learn?<br /><br />Don't JIC! What is JIC? Just In Case peeing. Have you ever said to yourself, "Let me just use the bathroom before we go, just in case." What we learned is that the bladder can be easily retrained to think that it is full when it is only 1/2 or 1/4 full. By JICing, you can increase urinary incontinence.<br /><br />We also learn how to properly do Kegels and the importance of bulging the pelvic floor in addition to contracting it.
